Theseus and the Minotaur storyboard

Storyboard - designed for children with autism to reinforce their understanding of the story. Children sorted the order of the text as a group before drawing their own accompanying pictures. With my group of children (mixed aged KS1/KS2) I kept the text on the worksheet but I have included a publisher version so this activity could be adapted to a cut and stick activity, or children could write their own sentences.

Gruffalo's Child - appearance and personality. SEN, ASD

(0)
Resource created to support learners with ASD in understanding personality and appearance - this can be a real area of difficulty for learners with ASD. Children should write outside of the first image, describing 'outside', they write inside the second image to help them understand that personality is on the 'inside'.

These 2 Power Points were designed to accompany a 'Victorian' box, on load from a local museum. The lessons were planned for a group of Y7 students, all with autism - therefore speaking, listening and attention skills were also targeted, together with more general social skills. Students also struggled with theory of mind / speech and language which the describing activity and game sought to target. My young people really enjoyed these lessons and the activities were completed over several weeks. If you are lucky enough to have a local museum which loans topics boxes then that wold be ideal, however the activities would also work if you have your own set of Victorian learning resources.

Little Polar Bear, English Resources, SEN, ASD

Resources made to support SEN group with autism. We read 'Little Polar Bear' by Hans de Beer. Colour cards are orange 'who' words to support Narrative Intervention. Structured visual (TEACCH) included to support students to write about Lars and Henry's journey. This is coloured red as this covers 'where' words. Will work equally well for children who are not using narrative intervention - in which case the word colours could just be random. Could also benefit children without ASD who struggle with working memory, attention or writing activities. Saved as PDF.

Victorian Schools - PowerPoint presentation and TEACCH style questions (ASD)

(0)
This PowerPoint was designed to use with a Year 7 class of students, all with autism. A question sheet is included - this is set out in a 'TEACCH' style. This is an ASD specific strategy ensuring students are aware of what they have to do, how much they have to do and how to tell when they are finished. Students need to cross off each question as completed. The questions and PowerPoint are also suitable for mainstream pupils.

All About Me Game, transition, new class

A game I made for my small class of learners with autism. Suitable for any small group introduction - e.g. intervention group, speech and language, attention and listening. Learners throw a dice and move around the board. When they land on a question, they answer the question. I like to ask another member of the group a question relating to the answer, to encourage learners to pay attention to each other's answers - my children tend to have very little interest in each other! Supports social skills, attention and listening, turn taking. Used for specialist autism group but appropriate for any mainstream KS1 / KS2 group or older SEN group.

3D Hot Air Balloon craft - All About Me, Transition, New Class, SEN, KS1, KS2

4 oval shapes for learners to draw - self portrait, things I like, my family, what I want to do when I grow up. When these are finished, ovals should be cut out and folded in half. Two halves should be stuck to one oval - making a 'cross' type shape when viewed from above. Apologies for my rubbish description! String can then be used to attach the 'basket' to the hot air balloon. A lovely 'getting to know you' craft for the beginning of the school year. These look nice strung in a line across a window.
